Tom Woodward grew up in a small town in the Augusta, Georgia, area. He is a retired Coast Guard Commander, having served twenty-six-plus years in a combined Navy and Coast Guard career. Upon his retirement, he moved to the Atlanta, Georgia, area. There he worked for over twenty years as a prosecutor, retiring from his position as a senior assistant district attorney. His first book, Loose Ends, is a collection of short-story mysteries, some laced with humor and romance, which Amazon calls “A great, entertaining read with an eclectic mix of storylines.” Shortening Shadows, his murder mystery, set against the rich historical backdrop of 1935 Atlanta, intertwines historical figures with unique characters to explore the city’s seedy criminal underbelly. The book, which Amazon describes as a “sharp-edged crime novel [which] digs deep into the city’s sordid criminal underworld while scratching at the racially strained layer lurking below the surface of life in the Jim Crow South.” The novel was selected for review by the Historical Novel Society and was nominated for the 53rd Georgia Author of the Year Award (GAYA) in the First Novel category. Now, he occupies his time doing volunteer work and writing for his author’s website.
